I approached the Italian culture with
intentional ignorance in attempt to forget nominal associations I previously had
with Italy and let my first hand summertime experience guide my impressions. I
was able to explore the people I encountered intimately, but candidly. The
environment captured is one of a unique architectural and geographic heritage, equally
important for me to describe as the people interacting within it. I am not
claiming this to be an accurate interpretation of the Italian culture as a
whole, but rather a cross section of a select group of people, places, and
their characteristics. What I hope to achieve with this selection of
photographs is to portray accurately the daily climate of these people’s sociocultural
atmosphere, a mood that is the by-product of ancient stone and the modern
society that now stands amongst it.
